Charleston, South Carolina. — A former Mount Pleasant nanny accused of exploiting the children in his care appeared in federal court on Wednesday for a preliminary hearing.
Brandon Brill, 26, faces a 10-count federal indictment charging him with using his position as a childcare provider to generate and attempt to manufacture child sexual abuse material, as well as coercing and enticing kids. Prosecutors claimed the acts included youngsters he babysat or lived close, and if convicted, he could face a life term.
In July, federal investigators reported that Brill’s alleged conduct went back at least to June 2023. According to investigators, Brill frequently brought children to his house for video games and sleepovers, allowing him to exploit at least six minors. The case involves claims of “sextortion” and the extortion of youngsters for sexual photos.
During Wednesday’s hearing, a federal judge granted a motion to continue the case, giving attorneys more time to review what prosecutors described as a significant amount of discovery.
According to Assistant US Attorney Amy Bower, continuances are common in cases involving extensive evidence.
“I can’t speak about anything that isn’t public record. However, as you saw, continuances are fairly common in these instances when there is a lot of discovery,” Bower explained. “And so the judge in this case has continued it to continue to allow Mr. Brill to work with his new counsel, who was appointed to get through the discovery in the case.”
Brill was detained in February after a combined investigation by the Mount Pleasant Police Department, the Moncks Corner Police Department, and agents from the United States. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. He remains in federal custody.
His next court appearance is planned in February 2026.
Law enforcement officials say the inquiry is still ongoing. Anyone who feels their child has had contact with Brandon Brill should call the DHS tip line at 866-DHS-2-ICE or report local law enforcement.
