North Charleston, South Carolina. – A man wanted for allegedly killing his ex-girlfriend in North Charleston was apprehended Monday, according to the North Charleston Police Department.
Luis Oscar Ocanto, 38, is suspected of killing his ex-girlfriend at her apartment before leaving in her car.
North Charleston police were dispatched to do a welfare check at 8:30 a.m. from a sympathetic friend of the victim. The complainant stated that they were concerned because they had heard that the defendant, Ocanto, had an argument with the victim earlier, and when they attempted to contact her, she did not answer.
When authorities arrived, they discovered a throng of women standing in front of the victim’s door, screaming and crying.
As the police approached, they discovered that the front door had been kicked in, and the door frame was on the floor. They then searched the residence, where they discovered the victim had died.
Ocanto was apprehended the same day near Kingsland, Georgia, when an officer pulled him over for speeding on I-95. When the police ran the tag and vehicle number, the car was identified as stolen out of North Charleston.
Authorities checked up Ocanto and discovered that he was wanted for murder by the NCPD. He was captured and transported to the Camden County Jail in Georgia, where he is currently awaiting extradition.
Ocanto is accused with murder and possession of a stolen automobile.
