One80 Place hosts its annual Turkey and $20 drive

Charleston, South Carolina – An annual donation drive, “Turkey and a $20,” will kick out Tuesday at a downtown Charleston homeless shelter.

Each year, One80 Place invites the community to donate a frozen turkey and $20 to help those in need.

The goal of Tuesday’s donation drive is to raise $80,000 by collecting grocery store gift cards and frozen turkeys to feed local people in need.

Every dollar contributed will help fund the shelter’s communal kitchen and food rescue programs. The gifts will allow the shelter to provide thousands of meals to those experiencing homelessness and hunger, as well as fill its kitchen with nutritious meals and supplies at one of the busiest times of year.

“We are thrilled that Turkey and a $20 will be a memorable event in which families, individuals, and coworkers may join and give back at the start of the Christmas season. Turkey and a $20 has become a regional tradition, marking a day of benevolence, camaraderie, and thanksgiving. Last year, the community responded to our request for assistance, and we are confident that they will do so again,” said One80 Place CEO Stacey Denaux.

People are encouraged to drop off contributions at 35 Walnut Street between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.
