A stunning disregard for human life,' SC sheriff says following deadly shooting

According to the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office, a South Carolina teenager was charged with murder after a shooting, which ended a manhunt.

Harrison Charles Townsend, an 18-year-old Nexton resident, was detained on Sunday, jail records show. That’s the day after Summerville resident Kymeek T. Traylor, 20, was killed during an armed robbery, according to a news release from the sheriff’s office on Monday.

The incident occurred Saturday night at Myers Market in Summerville, according to the announcement.

According to the sheriff’s office, deputies arrived at the convenience shop at 9:30 p.m. to investigate an armed robbery in process. According to the announcement, the store owner informed law officials that he witnessed the heist on the store’s CCTV cameras.

When deputies arrived at the store, the robbery suspect, later identified as Townsend, had already departed, but they discovered Traylor’s body, according to the sheriff’s office.

At 9:37 p.m., the Berkeley County Coroner’s Office was called to the business, and a hunt for the gunman was launched.

According to the announcement, the sheriff’s office worked with Homeland Security Investigations, the United States Marshals Service, and the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division on the quest for Townsend.

There was no information provided concerning the specific time or area where Townsend was found.

Townsend’s bond has not been set, and he remains in the Berkeley County Detention Center, according to jail records.

“This was a wicked, pointless act of violence. “The victim was completely compliant throughout the robbery,” Berkeley County Sheriff Duane Lewis stated in the release. “The suspect showed a shocking disregard for human life, and this community will not tolerate such brutality.”

Despite Townsend’s arrest, the sheriff’s and coroner’s offices are still investigating the shooting.
