A man is facing 25 charges after a pursuit in North Charleston

North Charleston, South Carolina – A convicted felon was arrested on 25 counts after a Sunday morning pursuit that resulted in a wreck and foot chase.

An officer with the North Charleston Police Department was patrolling near hotels in the North Charleston area shortly before 12:30 a.m. when he observed a car commit a traffic infraction while leaving the North Charleston Lodge, according to officials.

When the officer attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver sped away, prompting a pursuit.

Police claimed that as the suspect approached Dorchester Road, he lost control of the vehicle, collided with a parked automobile, and fled on foot. The suspect, Deontray Bellman, 35, of Ladson, was apprehended without additional incident following a brief foot chase.

“During the chase, officers observed Bellman discarding several objects, which were later collected and identified as clear baggies carrying narcotics. “Field tests confirmed the substances as fentanyl, crack cocaine, methamphetamine, cocaine, and marijuana,” the NCPD stated.

Officers discovered two firearms during a search of Bellman’s vehicle. The firearms were reported stolen in Berkeley County, and as a convicted felon, he is legally forbidden from possessing them.

Bellman is charged with a variety of offenses, including trafficking fentanyl, crack cocaine, and methamphetamine, possession with intent to distribute marijuana, two counts of felony firearm possession, resisting arrest, failing to stop for blue lights and sirens, and receiving stolen goods, among others.

Bellman was booked into the Charleston County Detention Center.
