Mount Pleasant Police Department arrests suspect following series of gropings.

A 19-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a series of sexual assault incidents in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina. The Mount Pleasant Police Department (MPPD) charged Khriz Angel Escobedo after multiple women came forward with reports of assault.

Arrest made in Mount Pleasant assault series

Escobedo has been charged with several serious offenses, including second-degree assault and battery, kidnapping, and attempted first-degree criminal sexual conduct. These charges stem from a string of reported incidents between February 23 and April 20, 2025.

Incidents detailed by victims

According to the victims’ statements, Escobedo approached them from behind in parking lots, charging at them unexpectedly. The assaults involved physical contact such as slapping, grabbing, or forced fondling.

At least two of the incidents took place at the Publix supermarket parking lot on Johnnie Dodds Boulevard, a location where the Mount Pleasant Police Department received multiple reports.

Surveillance operation leads to arrest

After receiving witness descriptions and obtaining security footage from nearby businesses, MPPD conducted a surveillance operation to track the suspect. With arrest warrants in hand, officers arrested Escobedo in North Charleston on Thursday, taking him into custody without incident.

Investigation ongoing

Detectives believe there may be other victims who have not yet come forward. Authorities are urging anyone who has experienced similar incidents to contact Captain Justin Hembree at MPPD. Investigators are actively working to ensure that all victims are identified and that Escobedo is held accountable.

Community impact and safety measures

The arrest brings some closure to the community, but it also raises concerns about safety, particularly in public spaces like parking lots. The MPPD continues to investigate and asks anyone with relevant information to come forward.
