FIRST ALERT: Much-needed rainfall today… Dry starts next week.

Widespread, much-needed rain will continue to impact the Lowcountry this weekend, with the heaviest rainfall expected on Saturday morning.

Weekend Weather Outlook

The rain will primarily affect areas along and north of a stalled boundary, bringing more clouds and humidity to the region. The heaviest rainfall is expected between 6 AM and 11 AM on Saturday, with showers and thunderstorms moving in from Georgia. Travelers are advised to take caution on the roads during this time as ponding and reduced visibility may occur.

By the late afternoon and evening, rain will become lighter and more isolated as the stalled front begins to push away from the area. High temperatures on Saturday will be cooler than usual, reaching only 64°F, about 15-20° lower than typical early May temperatures.

Rainfall and Coastal Concerns

Rain totals for Saturday night are expected to approach 1 inch in most locations, with locally higher amounts possible in areas where repeated downpours occur. Additionally, the combination of the full moon phase and light onshore winds will contribute to elevated high tides, particularly around 9:30 PM. This could result in minor coastal flooding in flood-prone and low-lying areas within an hour of high tide.

Forecast for the Week

  • Saturday: Cloudy & Blustery. Rain likely. High: 64°F, Low: 48°F.
  • Sunday: Mostly Sunny. High: 73°F, Low: 55°F.
  • Monday: Sunny. High: 78°F, Low: 59°F.
