Columbia-Richland Fire Department (CRFD) crews responded to a fire at a recycling facility in Columbia on Thursday afternoon.
Fire at Sunoco Recycling Facility
Firefighters were dispatched to Sunoco Recycling on Idlewild Boulevard around 12:40 p.m. after reports of smoke coming from the rear of the facility. Upon arrival, crews found the building filled with mixed recycling materials stacked from floor to ceiling.
Response and Containment
Staff at the facility used their equipment to dig into the piles of recycling materials, allowing firefighters to apply water and control the flames. Fire officials confirmed that the situation was brought under control without any injuries reported.
