Charleston Police arrest suspect in a series of incidents at an apartment complex

Charleston, South Carolina – The Charleston Police Department arrested and charged a man in connection with a string of violent incidents at a downtown apartment complex.

According to Charleston Police, Paul Emmanuel Chisolm, 30, of North Charleston, was arrested and charged with two counts of shooting into a dwelling, three counts of first-degree assault and battery, two counts of assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature, possession of a firearm while committing a violent crime, first-degree domestic violence, third-degree assault and battery, and damage to real property.

Chisolm is involved in three separate incidents between August 16 and September 21.

On August 16, officers patrolling North Romney Street heard gunshots and went to the Bridgeview Village Apartments. Officers discovered shell casings and bullet damage on the front door of an apartment. There were no reported injuries, and Chisolm knew the resident of the apartment.

On August 21, officers responded to a separate shooting at a residence on North Romney Street. Gunshots were fired through the front door, striking a 5-year-old child and an adult. Both survived and were discharged from the hospital. It was determined that the victims had no connection to Chisolm.

On September 21, Chisolm returned to the apartment where the Aug. 16 incident occurred and assaulted a victim during a money dispute after forcing his way into the home. He assaulted another person when they attempted to intervene.

Chisolm is being held in the Al Cannon Detention Center. During the incidents, he was under the supervision of the South Carolina Department of Probation, Parole, and Pardon Services.

This is an ongoing investigation.
