Felon apprehended in North Charleston for handgun possession during a traffic collision

North Charleston, South Carolina. A man was detained on September 16 after investigators determined he was illegally in possession of a firearm as a felon, according to the North Charleston Police Department.

Isiah Stroud, 38, was detained and charged with unauthorized possession of a firearm by a person previously convicted of a violent crime.

According to police reports, officers were conducting proactive patrols near Rivers and Helm Avenues when they noticed Stroud attempting to dodge officers on the road. In his attempt to dodge police, he collided with another vehicle.

When cops made contact with Stroud, they reported smelling marijuana and apprehended him. A search of his vehicle turned up a firearm in the center console.

According to records, Stroud has many prior convictions for violent felonies and is legally forbidden from owning a handgun.

Stroud was taken into custody and placed into the Al Cannon Detention Center.
