A 21-year-old man is facing several charges after crashing a stolen vehicle during a high-speed chase with law enforcement in Summerville, South Carolina. The incident occurred around 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday when Summerville Police attempted to stop a car involved in a carjacking that took place the previous day in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Details of the Chase
According to police reports, the vehicle, which was believed to be involved in the carjacking, sped away from officers and weaved in and out of traffic while traveling northbound on N Main Street. The pursuit ended when the car crashed into a guardrail on Farmington Road.
Suspect Attempts to Flee
The driver of the vehicle, later identified as Jacquez Weston, exited the car holding a black leather bag and tried to flee the scene on foot. However, he was quickly apprehended by officers. The report described how Weston initially resisted arrest, pulling away from the officer before being taken to the ground.
Evidence Found
During a search of Weston’s bag, officers recovered two handguns, magazines, and ammunition—one of which had been stolen during the carjacking. Additionally, a substance testing presumptive for marijuana was found in the bag.
