Roper St. Francis Healthcare is taking a modern approach to patient and visitor care by opening its second AI-powered Palmetto Market, this time at the Roper St. Francis Berkeley Hospital Medical Office Building. The store uses Amazon’s Just Walk Out technology, allowing shoppers to grab what they need and leave without waiting in line.
Convenience Around the Clock
The new market is open 24/7, making it easier for hospital staff, patients, and visitors to grab essentials at any time of day or night. It offers:
Fresh, grab-and-go meals
Snacks and drinks
Flowers and gifts
Roper St. Francis Healthcare-branded merchandise
A full-service Starbucks with barista-made beverages, available daily from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Patrick Bosse, chief administrative officer at Roper St. Francis Berkeley Hospital, said the goal is to make daily life easier for those who rely on the hospital.
“With the Palmetto Market, someone finishing a late shift or visiting a loved one after hours can still enjoy fresh food, coffee, or even pick up a gift, all without waiting in line,” Bosse explained.
Part of a Bigger Expansion
The opening is part of a broader expansion project at the Berkeley County campus. Leaders say the move reflects the hospital’s commitment to optimizing space and modernizing services as part of its 2030 Strategic Plan.
“This second Palmetto Market location delivers on both, offering a better, more convenient experience for everyone who comes through our doors,” said Fletcher, a spokesperson for the hospital system.
More Markets Coming Soon
This isn’t the end of the rollout. Roper St. Francis Healthcare plans to open additional Palmetto Market locations at other facilities across the tri-county area, giving more patients, visitors, and staff access to this quick, tech-driven shopping experience.
With its new AI-powered Palmetto Market, Roper St. Francis Healthcare is redefining convenience in healthcare settings. From late-night snacks to fresh meals and even flowers or gifts, the 24/7 market provides care beyond the hospital room. As more locations open across the region, the initiative promises to make hospital visits a little easier — and a lot more convenient.
