Unruly' United Airlines Passenger Arrested After Allegedly Attempting to Hijack Plane During Flight

A United Airlines flight to Minneapolis was forced to make an emergency landing after a passenger allegedly tried to enter the cockpit.

Flight Details

Flight UA2005 departed from Chicago O’Hare International Airport at 8 p.m. local time on Friday, May 29. The flight, carrying 147 passengers and six crew members, was diverted to Dane County Regional Airport in Madison, Wis., due to an “unruly passenger.”

Passenger Incident

An unidentified male passenger reportedly “ranting in Russian” attempted to force his way into the cockpit, leading to a struggle onboard. The pilot used squawk code 7500 — the air traffic control signal for a possible hijacking.

Arrest and Safety

The Dane County Sheriff’s Office removed the passenger and took him into custody. No injuries were reported, and the airport continued normal operations after the incident.

Investigation

Federal authorities are investigating the situation. Squawk code 7500 allows pilots to discreetly alert air traffic control, often prompting security response and law enforcement involvement upon landing.
