A mother in Alabama, Kaitlynn Dominick, has been charged with manslaughter and aggravated child abuse after allegedly killing her 17-month-old son by administering a lethal liquid mixture through his feeding tube.
Incident Details
Dominick’s son had a medical condition that required a surgically implanted gastric feeding tube. She brought him to USA Health Children’s & Women’s Hospital on May 4, and he died the next morning. Hospital staff reported concerns to police after reviewing the child’s lab results.
Mother’s Statements and Admission
Authorities said Dominick gave inconsistent statements about the incident but later admitted to mixing a liquid solution and giving it to her son, leading to his death. The mixture reportedly included table salt and another undisclosed liquid.
Investigators’ Remarks
BCSO Capt. Justin Correa explained that the concoction caused a medical emergency that led to the child’s death, emphasizing that a healthy adult might not have been harmed in the same way. Prosecutors allege Dominick intentionally harmed her son to relieve herself of his care.
Baldwin County Chief Assistant District Attorney Teresa Heinz stated, “I do believe that she did know that this would harm the child … because she knew that if the child was taken to the hospital there would be medical professionals tending to him.”
Legal Status and Investigation
Dominick was booked into Baldwin County Jail on May 26 and released two days later. The Baldwin County Coroner’s Office and the Alabama Department of Human Resources are assisting the investigation. Legal representation for Dominick has not been confirmed.
