A disturbing murder case that shocked Dorchester County has taken a major turn, as four people have now been arrested in connection with the brutal killing of 18-year-old Antwon Javice Carmichael. The young man’s body was found in a rural area earlier this month, and after weeks of intense investigation, law enforcement has made significant progress.
Body Found in Rosinville Sparks Homicide Probe
On the morning of August 3, Dorchester County deputies responded to a report about a suspicious package near White House Pond Road in the quiet Rosinville community. What they discovered was heartbreaking — the body of a young man, later identified as Antwon Javice Carmichael from Orangeburg County.
Sheriff Sam Richardson confirmed that Carmichael died from multiple stab wounds, and the crime did not happen at the site where the body was found. Investigators revealed the murder occurred around August 2 on Peppertree Lane in North Charleston.
Four Arrested in Connection With the Murder
After a thorough investigation and key tips from the community, authorities arrested four individuals believed to be involved in the crime:
Jay Sneed, 40 – Charged with murder, possession of a weapon during a violent crime, and desecration of human remains
Jessicle Williams, 34 – Charged with murder and accessory before the fact of desecration of human remains
Antoine Lott, 40 – Charged with accessory after the fact of murder and desecration of human remains
Shaquanan Frayer, 37 – Also charged with accessory after the fact of murder and desecration of human remains
How the Victim Was Identified
Although Carmichael was reported missing by the Orangeburg Department of Public Safety in 2023, he was not listed as missing at the time of his death, according to authorities. When a forensic sketch of the victim was released on August 7, the public responded immediately. Within hours, law enforcement received key community tips that helped confirm his identity, which was later backed by DNA analysis.
No Gang Ties, Motive Still Unclear
Sheriff Richardson made it clear that Carmichael’s murder is not gang-related, and investigators believe this was an isolated case. While the exact motive remains unclear, officials say the public is not at risk.
Critical Role of Community and Police Partnership
The sheriff took a moment to thank both the North Charleston Police Department and the local community for their help. Evidence found at the scene played a key role in identifying suspects, and strong cooperation between law enforcement agencies led to the swift arrests.
“I want to especially thank the North Charleston Police Department… Their partnership has been invaluable,” Sheriff Richardson said during a briefing held at 4 p.m. on Friday.
The murder of Antwon Carmichael is a tragic reminder of how violent crime can shake even the quietest communities. Thanks to community tips, forensic analysis, and the dedicated work of multiple law enforcement agencies, key suspects have been brought into custody. While questions about the motive remain, the arrests provide a step toward justice for Antwon and his loved ones.
