Charleston County celebrates the completion of Azalea Complex Phase II

Charleston County officials are marking a major milestone with the completion of Phase II of the Azalea Complex. The public is invited to celebrate the new 122,000-square-foot campus with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Thursday at 10 a.m. The event will take place at the complex’s new location at 3681 Leeds Avenue.

Phase II Completion: Optimizing County Operations

The Azalea Complex, situated at the intersection of Leeds Avenue and Headquarters Road, is designed to centralize key county functions. By consolidating Public Works, Facilities Management teams, and various essential equipment, the complex aims to streamline operations, improving service coordination for daily activities as well as disaster recovery efforts.

The facility includes administrative offices, trade shops, warehouses, and field operations spaces, as well as dedicated areas for Mosquito Control operations and equipment parking. The site also features a garage for the Unified Mobile Command vehicle, along with fixed and mobile generator connections to ensure uninterrupted operations during power outages.

Project Details and Budget Success

The $65 million project, designed by SMHa and constructed by Trident Construction, was completed ahead of schedule and under budget. Construction began in May 2023, and the successful completion of Phase II reflects Charleston County’s ongoing efforts to optimize infrastructure for better public service.

Future Developments: EMS Headquarters

An earlier phase of the Azalea Complex included the installation of a fuel station and wash bay for all county assets. Looking ahead, a future phase of development will focus on providing an upgraded, centralized headquarters for Charleston County EMS, further enhancing the county’s emergency response capabilities.

Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony

The ribbon-cutting event on Thursday will be an opportunity for county officials, community members, and partners to tour the new facilities and learn more about the benefits the Azalea Complex will bring to the area. The completed project marks a significant step in the county’s long-term strategy for improving operational efficiency and emergency preparedness.
