A North Charleston man has been arrested in connection with a series of vehicle break-ins in the Wescott area after a two-week investigation by local authorities. Armeen Dushorn Deveaux, 29, was taken into custody on August 8 after detectives linked him to several thefts, including a firearm stolen from a vehicle at Wescott Golf Club.
The Investigation and Break-In at Wescott Golf Club
The investigation began on July 27, when North Charleston Police responded to a break-in at Wescott Golf Club. Officers discovered that a firearm had been stolen from one of the vehicles in the parking lot. Following the incident, detectives reviewed dashcam footage from a third party, which ultimately led to identifying Deveaux as the suspect.
Over the next two weeks, officers connected Deveaux to multiple additional vehicle break-ins in the area.
Charges Against Deveaux
Deveaux has been charged with eight counts of breaking into a motor vehicle, three counts of unlawful possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and one count of financial transaction card theft. The charges stem from his alleged involvement in a series of vehicle break-ins, where both firearms and personal items were stolen.
Ongoing Investigation
Authorities have stated that the investigation is ongoing, and they are working to determine if Deveaux is connected to any other recent break-ins in the area.
Deveaux’s arrest highlights ongoing efforts by the North Charleston Police Department to crack down on auto theft and related crimes in the region.
