Charleston Grill is ending after 36 years of service

After 36 years of serving the Lowcountry, the iconic Charleston Grill will close its doors on August 23, marking the end of an era for one of Charleston’s oldest fine dining establishments.

A Staple of Charleston Dining
Since 1989, the Charleston Grill, located inside the Charleston Place Hotel, has been a cornerstone of the city’s culinary scene. Known for its Southern-inspired dishes and award-winning atmosphere, it became a beloved spot for both locals and visitors alike, celebrating the vibrant culinary heritage of the region.

Visitor Reactions to the Closure
Many Charleston visitors expressed their sadness over the closure, with Helen Chow, a frequent visitor, commenting, “This is a beautiful place, and there are a lot of beautiful places as well. But this is different, this is historical Charleston.”

Renovation Plans by Beemok Hospitality Group
The closure is part of Beemok Hospitality Group’s multi-million dollar renovation of the Charleston Place Hotel. The group plans to replace the Charleston Grill with a new, fresh dining concept. In a statement, Beemok Hospitality Group said, “It has been our greatest honor to serve this community for more than three decades. While this chapter is ending, the spirit of Charleston Grill and the memories created here will continue to inspire what comes next.”

Future Dining Concept and Pop-Up Plans
While the Charleston Grill will be replaced by a new concept, Beemok Hospitality Group announced that a pop-up culinary experience will take its place for about a year, although no set date for its opening has been provided.

Excitement for New Ideas
While many will miss the Charleston Grill, some visitors, like Lexie Craven, are excited about what’s to come. “Maybe somewhere more of a tapas style, kind of like local eats,” Craven suggested.

Final Opportunity to Visit
There is still time to visit the Charleston Grill before it closes its doors. The restaurant will remain open through August 23, offering a final opportunity to enjoy its legendary meals and atmosphere.

As the Charleston Grill closes after more than three decades, it leaves behind a rich legacy in Charleston’s dining scene. While the future holds a new chapter, the memories created at the Charleston Grill will continue to inspire the Lowcountry for years to come.
