Employee Accused of Stealing Lottery Tickets
According to officials, Mae Thomas, a 22-year-old from Dorchester County, has been charged in connection with the case.
Investigators say she took scratch-off lottery tickets from the gas station where she worked and later redeemed them for money.
How the Incident Happened
Authorities claim the alleged theft took place at a Circle K store on East Bay Street.
As per reports, Thomas was working at the store when she allegedly took scratch-off tickets without paying for them. She then used the South Carolina Education Lottery Players Club app to scan and claim the winnings.
This method allowed her to convert the stolen tickets into cash.
Charges Filed Against the Accused
Thomas now faces the following charges:
- Intent to defraud
- Counterfeit game tickets
These charges suggest that authorities believe the act was done knowingly and with the intention to gain money illegally.
Arrest and Release on Bond
After the investigation, Thomas was taken into custody and booked at the Charleston County Jail.
Officials later confirmed that she has been released after posting a bond of $2,500. This means she is currently out of custody but will have to appear in court as the case moves forward.
