A teenager was critically injured in a car crash on Neely Road in York County, South Carolina, Wednesday afternoon and had to be airlifted to a hospital.
Crash Details
The accident occurred just before 4:30 p.m. when a 2009 Toyota Camry ran off the road twice and overturned, eventually wrapping around a tree. Emergency crews had to cut the teen out of the vehicle before flying her to a hospital for treatment.
Witness Account
Neighbor Alexis Howz said she heard a loud bang and rushed to the scene. She described the road as dangerous, citing potholes, overgrown trees, few speed limit signs, and no warning for the sharp curve where the crash happened. Howz said these factors make the road unsafe, especially since a school is nearby.
Victim Information
The driver is a 17-year-old student, believed to attend South Pointe High School, though her identity has not been released. A district spokesperson confirmed awareness of the crash and offered thoughts and prayers to the teen and her family.
Road Safety Concerns
Howz hopes the accident highlights the need for improvements along Neely Road to prevent future crashes. She emphasized the road’s condition and lack of proper signage as major safety hazards.
