Jasper County, S.C. – A routine traffic stop in Jasper County turned into a major drug bust on Wednesday, leading to the arrest of a 26-year-old man and the seizure of fentanyl and a firearm.
Traffic Violations Trigger Police Action
According to the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office, deputies noticed a Toyota Camry committing several traffic violations on Grahamville Road. These included:
- Speeding
- Improper display of a license plate
- Failure to stop at a stop sign
Due to these violations, deputies conducted a traffic stop, which later led to further investigation.
Drugs and Weapon Recovered
During the stop, deputies carried out a search based on probable cause. The search resulted in the recovery of:
- 17.5 grams of fentanyl
- A nine-millimeter handgun
Fentanyl is a highly dangerous drug, and even small amounts can be life-threatening, making this seizure significant.
Suspect Arrested and Charged
Authorities arrested Dwayne O’Neal Mayers, 26, in connection with the case. He now faces serious charges, including:
- Trafficking fentanyl
- Possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime
