A man has been arrested in relation to a shooting incident that occurred in February in North Charleston, South Carolina. The shooting, which caused significant damage to nearby apartments and vehicles, has now led to the arrest of Mario Lavell Burgess, who faces multiple charges in connection with the incident.
The Incident
On February 23, police responded to the 8400 block of Yadkin Circle following reports of gunfire. Upon arriving at the scene, authorities learned that a custody exchange between a man and a woman had escalated into an argument. During the dispute, one of the men allegedly fired a shot into the air, which led to further gunfire coming from a nearby apartment.
Damage and No Injuries Reported
Though the exchange of gunfire was intense, no injuries were reported. However, the gunfire caused significant damage to both two apartments and two parked vehicles. Fortunately, the situation did not result in any physical harm to individuals, but the property damage was substantial.
The Arrest of Mario Lavell Burgess
Following an extensive investigation, Mario Lavell Burgess was identified as a suspect in the shooting. He was arrested and charged with multiple offenses, including assault and battery in the first degree, firing into a dwelling, and felony possession of a firearm.
At the time of his arrest, Burgess was already being held at the Al Cannon Detention Center on unrelated charges, adding further complexity to the case.
Second Person Charged
Burgess’s arrest marks the second person charged in connection with the shooting. Authorities continue to investigate the events surrounding the incident as they work to ensure that justice is served in this case.
