NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. — Charleston Moves is hosting a series of events this month as part of Mobility Month to promote safer transportation options for pedestrians and cyclists.

Community Walking Audit in Accabee Neighborhood

On Monday evening, the nonprofit will hold a community walking audit in North Charleston’s Accabee neighborhood. The goal of the audit is to identify gaps in pedestrian infrastructure and assess how people travel through the area.

The findings from this audit will be shared with city leaders as North Charleston works to develop a comprehensive safety action plan aimed at improving transportation safety. Participants are invited to meet at the Perry Webb Community Center, with the walk starting at 6 p.m.

A Month of Advocacy and Engagement

Charleston Moves hosts Mobility Month each May, featuring a range of events, including bike rides, walking audits, and traffic counts. These events aim to highlight necessary infrastructure improvements and gather feedback from the community on future transportation needs.

Additional events planned for the month include bicycle and pedestrian counts along Old Towne Road in West Ashley, a Ride of Silence on the Charleston peninsula to honor victims of traffic crashes, and more walking audits and bike rides focused on new and planned infrastructure improvements across the region.

Mobility Month is an opportunity for residents to engage in their community’s development while advocating for safer and more accessible transportation options.
