A major drug crackdown in South Carolina has led to dozens of arrests after a focused investigation in Columbia. Police say the operation targeted drug networks operating across the city and involved strong coordination between local, state, and federal agencies. Large-scale drug investigation in Columbia
The Columbia Police Department carried out a two-week-long investigation aimed at breaking drug distribution networks in the city of Columbia.
Officials said the operation was not limited to local police alone. It included support from state and federal agencies, showing the seriousness of the case and the wide reach of the suspected network.
As a result of this effort, a total of 41 people were arrested.
Arrests linked to drug activity near schools
Out of the 41 arrests, eight individuals are facing more serious charges. Police say these suspects were involved in selling or possessing drugs close to school areas.
Drug-related activities near schools are treated as severe offences because they directly impact the safety of children and young people. Authorities often apply stricter penalties in such cases.
Multiple types of drugs seized
During the operation, investigators recovered a variety of illegal substances. These included:

Firearms and illegal possession cases
In addition to drugs, officers also seized six firearms. Among them was one fully automatic weapon, which is considered highly dangerous, and another that had previously been reported stolen.
Police also revealed that at least one of the accused is a convicted felon who is not legally allowed to carry a firearm. This adds another serious charge to the case.
Cash and valuables recovered
Authorities recovered more than $2,300 in cash during the operation, and additional money is still being counted. Along with cash, officers also seized several pieces of jewellery.
Investigators believe these valuables may be connected to criminal activities, possibly linked to drug sales or other illegal operations.

Police explained that not all arrests happened at the same time. The operation was carried out in phases:
