A deeply tragic case from Houston has left a family shattered and raised serious concerns about how domestic violence cases are handled. A young woman, who was just weeks away from becoming a mother, lost her life in a situation many believe could have been prevented.
Arrest Made in Louisiana
Police have arrested Kevin Faux, a 24-year-old man accused of killing 23-year-old Ashanti Allen. He was taken into custody on April 20 in Jefferson Parish by the U.S. Marshals Service.
Authorities confirmed that he is currently being held in custody and will be sent back to Harris County, Texas, to face charges related to Allen’s death.
Victim Was Eight Months Pregnant
Ashanti Allen was eight months pregnant with her first child when she went missing. Her disappearance was reported on April 10 after her family received a worrying message from her phone saying she was leaving and would not return.
Sadly, her body was found on April 16 near a bayou area in Houston. Volunteers and search teams helped locate her after days of searching.
This loss has deeply affected her family, who were eagerly waiting to welcome a new member into their lives.
Past Violence Raises Serious Questions
One of the most troubling aspects of this case is that the accused had a known history of violence.
Court records show that Kevin Faux had pleaded guilty less than two months earlier to assaulting Ashanti Allen. Originally charged with a more serious offence, he accepted a plea deal on February 19 and received a reduced charge.
He was sentenced to 280 days in jail but was released early due to time already served.
This detail has led many, including Allen’s family, to question whether stronger action could have prevented this tragedy.
Family Speaks Out
Ashanti’s mother has openly said that she believes her daughter might still be alive if the accused had remained in custody.
Her father also shared his pain, saying the loss has left him feeling numb and unable to understand how such incidents happen.
The family is now dealing with double grief — losing both Ashanti and her unborn baby, who they had already named Jaxon.
Community Efforts and Support
Search efforts included help from volunteers and local organisations, showing how communities often come together in difficult times. However, despite these efforts, the outcome has left everyone heartbroken.
The case has also sparked discussions about:
- Domestic violence awareness
- Legal decisions in assault cases
- The need for stronger protection for victims
