A foster dog that went missing for more than six months in South Carolina has finally been found safe, bringing a happy ending to a long search effort.

Missing Dog Found After 182 Days

Bark Simpson, a 4-year-old hound, disappeared on Nov. 15, 2025, shortly after arriving at his foster home in Kingstree.

According to volunteers with the Charleston Animal Society Berkeley Campus, Bark escaped from a vehicle and ran into nearby woods before anyone could secure his leash.

Volunteers Never Gave Up

For more than six months, volunteers and the foster family continued searching for Bark. They regularly left food and water in the area and used cameras and animal traps to monitor his movements.

Despite months without success, they remained committed to finding him.

Returned With a New Friend

After 182 days, Bark unexpectedly returned to the area. Volunteers said he was accompanied by a black dog, which may have helped him survive while living in the woods.

The foster family alerted volunteers, who were able to safely recover him.

Safe and Looking for a Home

Bark is now safe at the Charleston Animal Society Berkeley Campus.

Shelter staff said the story highlights the importance of microchipping pets and never giving up hope when an animal goes missing.

Bark is currently available for fostering and adoption through the Charleston Animal Society.
