A peaceful family rafting trip in Idaho has turned into a serious legal battle after shocking allegations of violence involving an elected official. The incident, which reportedly took place in August 2025, has now led to a lawsuit that raises concerns about safety and accountability in public spaces.
What Happened on the River
According to the legal complaint, the incident occurred on the Main Payette River near Horseshoe Bend. A family, including Abby Beard and her children, were enjoying a rafting trip when they were allegedly confronted by a group of men riding jet skis.
The situation reportedly escalated quickly when members of the group began acting aggressively, asking who wanted to fight and behaving in a threatening manner.
Allegations Against an Elected Official
The lawsuit names Darrell Lindstrom, also known as “Lindy,” as one of the main individuals involved.
According to the complaint:
- He allegedly held a knife to Abby Beard’s throat and threatened her life
- He is accused of stabbing her 17-year-old daughter in the leg
- The teenager reportedly suffered a deep injury near her knee
- The daughter also injured her hand while trying to stop the attack
Despite these serious claims, Lindstrom has denied all allegations and stated that he is innocent.
How the Fight Escalated
The complaint says the confrontation began when another man, identified as Lloyd Asher, along with others, approached the family in an aggressive manner.
After leaving briefly, the group allegedly returned with Lindstrom and more individuals, reportedly looking to continue the conflict.
At that point:
- Abby Beard reportedly took out a safety knife to protect her family
- A struggle followed, during which Lindstrom allegedly took control of the knife
- The situation escalated into a physical fight involving multiple people
Injuries Reported
The lawsuit claims several members of the Beard family were injured during the incident:
- The teenage daughter suffered a stab wound and hand injury
- A male family member, Treyson Beard, reportedly sustained serious facial and dental injuries after being beaten
- Abby Beard herself allegedly suffered minor stab wounds
These injuries required medical attention, according to the complaint.
Legal Action and Investigation
The Beard family has now filed a civil lawsuit seeking damages for the physical and emotional harm caused.
They have also raised concerns about delays in the investigation by local authorities. The Boise County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed that the case is still under investigation.
Meanwhile, Lindstrom has publicly denied the accusations, calling them untrue.
