A New York woman was sentenced to nearly two decades in prison for attacking her boyfriend with an explosive.

Incident Details

On March 22, 2024, 35-year-old Keyonna Waddell allegedly threw a lit stick of dynamite at her former boyfriend while he was sleeping in his apartment. The man attempted to throw the explosive out the window, but it detonated, causing severe injuries.

Victim Injuries

The victim lost part of his hand and arm due to the explosion and was hospitalized for treatment.

Prior Threats

Authorities said Waddell had repeatedly threatened the victim with dynamite over several months before the incident.

Charges and Sentence

Waddell was found guilty of assault and criminal possession of a weapon. She was sentenced to 18 years in prison, plus five years of post-release supervision. She faced up to 25 years for the crime.
