A Missouri man is in custody after a Memorial Day shooting that killed a mother and grandmother in a supermarket parking lot.

Incident Details

On Memorial Day, Allen Prince, 27, allegedly shot 45-year-old Amy Coon and a 16-year-old boy at Cosentino’s Price Chopper on Missouri Route 7 in Pleasant Hill. Coon was pronounced dead at the scene, and the teen was hospitalized in stable condition.

Charges

Prince faces one count of first-degree murder, two counts of assault, and three counts of armed criminal action.

Shooting Circumstances

The teen victim was shot twice while retrieving shopping carts. Police say Prince fired a bolt-action Winchester .243-caliber rifle. Two armed citizens approached Prince, prompting him to shoot himself in the head. He is currently being treated for his injuries.

Victim Remembrance

Amy Coon, a mother, grandmother, and community member, was remembered by family and friends for her kindness and positivity. This marks the first homicide in Pleasant Hill in at least 20 years.

Prior Legal Issues

At the time of the shooting, Prince had pending legal matters, including a harassment charge from September 2025. He had previously been released on bond with conditions barring firearm possession and harmful contact with others.
