A heartbreaking case from San Jose has raised serious concerns about child safety and the foster care system. A two-year-old boy, known as “Baby Jaxon,” lost his life in a situation that many believe could have been prevented.
What Happened to Baby Jaxon
The victim, Jaxon Juarez, was just two years old when he was found severely injured in his foster home on April 5, 2026. According to prosecutors, he had suffered repeated physical and sexual abuse after being placed in the home in February.
He was discovered in his crib with a ponytail holder tied around his neck, which later led to an unusual charge described as “assault with a hair tie.”
Despite being rushed to the hospital and placed on life support, Jaxon passed away on April 9.
Charges Against the Teen Suspect
An 18-year-old teenager, whose identity has not been made public, has been charged in connection with the case. He was a minor at the time of the incident and is currently being tried in juvenile court.
The charges include:
- Murder
- Sexual assault
- Felony assault with a hair tie
Authorities are now trying to move the case to adult court, where the punishment could be much more severe.
Concerns Over Foster Care Placement
One of the biggest concerns in this case is how Jaxon was placed in that home.
He was living with Bridget Michelle Martinez, the suspect’s mother. Reports show that she had a past conviction for child endangerment and multiple DUI cases.
Despite this history, Jaxon was placed in her care by the local child welfare agency.
This has raised serious questions about the screening and decision-making process used in foster placements.
Family Raises Questions
Jaxon’s relatives have expressed anger and heartbreak over what happened. Some family members had reportedly asked to take care of him but were not allowed to do so.

The case has drawn attention from local authorities and child safety groups. Jeff Rosen described the incident as “terrible and horrific,” highlighting the severe injuries the child suffered.
