A Minnesota man has been sentenced to 180 days in jail after pleading guilty in a hit-and-run crash that killed a pedestrian earlier this year.

Driver Sentenced in Fatal Hit-and-Run

Rolando Odir Miranda Martinez, 59, pleaded guilty in April to leaving the scene of a collision resulting in death. On Thursday, he was sentenced to 180 days in jail and received credit for 97 days already served in custody.

Pedestrian Killed While Crossing Road

The crash happened around 2 a.m. on March 7 near the intersection of Cliff Road and Nichols Road in Eagan, Minnesota. Authorities said Leslie Anne Youngberg, 40, was walking with another person when she was struck by a Honda CR-V.

The vehicle did not stop after the collision. Youngberg was taken to a hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.

Investigation Led Police to Suspect

Investigators used vehicle parts left at the scene and surveillance footage to identify the SUV involved. Police later located the damaged vehicle and Miranda Martinez at his residence.

According to authorities, Miranda Martinez told investigators he remembered hitting a “thing” that suddenly appeared in the road and said he continued driving because he was scared.

Victim Remembered by Family and Friends

Youngberg was remembered as a devoted mother to her 16-year-old son and a caring daycare worker who made a positive impact on many children. Family and friends described her as a compassionate person whose loss has deeply affected the community.
