The trial of a man charged in the fatal 2022 Rock Hill drug deal shooting has begun

A murder trial is underway in York County for a man accused in a deadly 2022 shooting linked to a drug deal in Rock Hill.

Trial Begins in Fatal Shooting Case

Joe Gore is facing charges including murder, attempted armed robbery and weapons offenses.

Prosecutors allege Gore and another man ambushed Dashawn Barnes during a drug-related encounter at an apartment complex on Celanese Road in Rock Hill in 2022.

Victim Died From Injuries

Authorities said Barnes suffered gunshot injuries during the incident and later died.

Co-Defendant Already Sentenced

The second defendant in the case, Jaelon Kelly, pleaded guilty to manslaughter in 2024.

Kelly is currently serving a 22-year prison sentence for his role in the shooting.

The trial against Gore is ongoing.
