Two people were arrested in Hart County after a traffic stop turned into a police pursuit early Monday morning.
Pursuit Begins After Traffic Stop Attempt
According to the Hart County Sheriff’s Office, the incident started shortly before 1:30 a.m. when a deputy attempted to stop a 1998 Toyota Corolla on West Howell Street in Hartwell.
Authorities said the driver refused to stop, leading deputies on a pursuit through several streets in the city.
Chase Ends With PIT Maneuver
During the pursuit, the vehicle reportedly traveled the wrong way on a roadway before continuing through the area.
The chase ended near the rear of a local bank when a deputy used a PIT maneuver to stop the vehicle.
Driver Faces Multiple Charges
The driver, 33-year-old Corey Randolph Gable of Elberton, was charged with felony fleeing and attempting to elude law enforcement.
He also faces several traffic-related charges, including driving without a license and vehicle equipment violations.
Passenger Arrested on Drug Charges
Passenger Amber Wilkerson, 35, of Lawrenceville, was charged with possession of methamphetamine and tampering with evidence.
Additional charges include giving a false name, crossing guard lines with drugs or intoxicants, and failure to wear a seat belt.
Both Taken to Jail
Following the incident, both Gable and Wilkerson were arrested and transported to the Hart County Jail.
