A South Carolina man has been sentenced to 18 years in prison after pleading guilty to kidnapping and severely assaulting a woman inside a North Charleston hotel room.
Man Sentenced to 18 Years
Shandell Broadway pleaded guilty on June 2 to charges of kidnapping and domestic violence of a high and aggravated nature.
The case stems from a November 2024 incident at the Hawthorne Suites on Northwoods Boulevard in North Charleston.
Woman Held and Assaulted for Days
According to investigators, Broadway confined the victim inside a hotel room and repeatedly assaulted her over several days.
The woman eventually escaped with her two young children and was found by police in the hotel lobby.
Officers reported that she had suffered severe injuries to her face and head.
Victim Suffered Serious Injuries
Authorities said the victim, who was pregnant at the time, sustained multiple facial fractures, including broken nasal bones and a severe orbital fracture around her eye.
She was transported to a hospital for treatment after escaping.
Extensive Criminal History
Prosecutors noted that Broadway has prior convictions in multiple states dating back to 2013, including assault-related offenses and a conviction for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Following his guilty plea, he was sentenced to 18 years in prison.
