A dramatic rescue unfolded in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, after a driver suffered a medical emergency and crashed into a pond, leaving her trapped inside a sinking vehicle.
Driver Rescued From Sinking Car
According to Mount Pleasant police, officers responded to reports of a vehicle in the water and found the driver trapped inside as the car continued to sink.
Body camera footage showed officers quickly removing their gear and entering the water after bystanders confirmed someone was still inside the vehicle.
Officers Break Into Vehicle
Police were able to break a window and open a door as the car filled with water.
The driver was unconscious when officers reached her but regained consciousness moments before the water completely covered her head.
Emergency responders cut her seatbelt and used a rope to pull her safely back to shore.
Medical Emergency Reported
Authorities said the woman suffered a seizure before losing control of her vehicle and driving into the pond.
She was transported to a hospital for treatment. Officials confirmed that no other passengers were inside the vehicle.
