A Louisiana woman was shot and killed by her ex-husband in an apparent murder-suicide amid an ongoing divorce and child custody dispute, authorities said.
Mother of Two Found Dead
The incident occurred on May 29 in Elmwood, a suburb of New Orleans. Deputies responding to a disturbance call found 28-year-old Meridian Woodson dead inside her apartment from an apparent gunshot wound.
While searching the area, authorities located her ex-husband, 30-year-old Kody Woodson, inside a vehicle in a nearby parking lot. He had suffered what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound and was pronounced dead.
Custody Battle Ongoing
According to local reports, the former couple had been involved in a divorce and custody dispute since 2024. Both were seeking custody of their two daughters, ages 4 and 7.
A custody hearing had been scheduled for June 18.

Meridian’s family described her as a loving mother and a caring person who was devoted to her children and family.
A fundraiser created after her death said she was known for her kindness, compassion and support for those around her.
