A California man has been sentenced to 216 years to life in prison for the 2023 murder of a 59-year-old man in San Diego County.
Man Sentenced for Murder
Kenneth McNally Jr., 42, was convicted of first-degree murder and several other violent crimes in connection with the death of Samuel Holthaus in September 2023.
According to prosecutors, witnesses told investigators that McNally admitted to killing Holthaus and dragging his body before burying it.
Body Discovered by Passerby
Authorities said a passerby discovered Holthaus’ body after noticing part of his head protruding from the ground. Investigators found an extension cord wrapped around the victim’s neck.
The investigation later revealed evidence that Holthaus had been dragged a significant distance before being buried.
Additional Convictions
In addition to murder, McNally was convicted of multiple other charges, including assault with a semi-automatic firearm, shooting at an occupied structure or vehicle, and assault likely to cause great bodily injury.
Prosecutors said he had also been accused of attacking several people in the area in the days leading up to the killing.
Victim Remembered
During sentencing, Holthaus’ family remembered him as a generous and caring person who regularly helped others in his community.
McNally was ultimately sentenced to 216 years to life in prison for the crimes.
