Berkeley County's Early Voting Rises 307%

South Carolina is experiencing record-breaking voter participation ahead of the 2026 statewide primaries, with early voting numbers already surpassing the entire early voting turnout from 2024.

Early Voting Sets New Records

According to the South Carolina State Election Commission, 151,670 voters cast ballots during the first week of early voting.

That total exceeds the 120,178 voters who participated during the entire early voting period in 2024.

Daily turnout also significantly outpaced 2024 levels throughout the first week.

Berkeley County Sees Major Increase

Berkeley County recorded 7,350 early votes during the first week, compared to 1,807 during the same period in 2024.

The increase represents a 307% jump in voter participation, making it one of the largest increases among South Carolina counties.

Top Counties for Early Voting

The counties with the highest early voting totals so far are:

  • Richland County: 18,882 votes
  • Charleston County: 13,910 votes
  • Greenville County: 11,712 votes
  • Horry County: 8,363 votes
  • Berkeley County: 7,350 votes

Election Officials React

State Election Commission Executive Director Conway Belangia described the turnout as a sign of extraordinary voter engagement across South Carolina.

Officials say voter enthusiasm has remained strong throughout the early voting period.

Early Voting Continues

Early voting remains open through Friday, June 5.

Voting centres are open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Voters can check polling locations, sample ballots, identification requirements, and other election information through the state’s election resources.
