A Summerville man was arrested at Northwoods Mall after police allegedly discovered he was carrying a stolen firearm.
Arrest at Northwoods Mall
According to the North Charleston Police Department, mall security alerted officers shortly after 7 p.m. on Friday that a man had entered the property with a firearm.
Officers located the individual and identified him as 18-year-old Carter Luciano Stewart.
Stolen Firearm Recovered
Police said Stewart told officers the firearm was inside a bag he was carrying. He was escorted outside the mall while officers secured the weapon.
Authorities reported that the handgun was loaded and contained six 9mm rounds in an extended magazine.
During the investigation, officers found multiple serial numbers on the firearm and conducted a records check.
The weapon was later identified as having been reported stolen in North Charleston.
Charges Filed
Stewart was arrested and charged with two counts of receiving stolen goods.
He was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Al Cannon Detention Center.
