SUMMERVILLE, S.C. — The Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO) arrested a suspect following a shooting on South Cardinal Drive off Ladson Road on Friday night that left two people injured.
Quick Response by Deputies
Patrol Team Four responded to the scene around 10:16 p.m., just two minutes after the initial call, and immediately detained the suspect in the front yard of the residence.
While securing the scene, deputies provided life-saving care to the two gunshot victims and conducted a protective sweep inside the home. Additional residents were safely evacuated, and the perimeter was secured.
Investigation Details
The Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division and Crime Scene Unit led the investigation. K-9 Elsa assisted officers in locating the firearm used in the shooting.
Suspect Charged
The suspect, Joseph Jerome Alston, 52, of Summerville, was charged with:
- Two counts of attempted murder
- Domestic violence of a high and aggravated nature
- Possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime
Alston was denied bond and remains in custody at the L.C. Knight Detention Center, according to DCSO.
