A 25-year-old woman was found shot to death early Friday morning in Augusta, and investigators are still searching for answers.
Victim Identified by Coroner
The Richmond County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as Khyla Rodriguez of Augusta.
Officials said Rodriguez was found with multiple gunshot wounds in a driveway on Cameron Drive.
Deputies Responded After Suspicious Phone Call
Deputies with the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office responded around 1:11 a.m. to the 3600 block of Cameron Drive after receiving reports of a suspicious situation.
According to investigators, the complainant told deputies they received a phone call from an unknown person claiming their friend was dead at the location.
Victim Found in Driveway
Authorities said deputies searched the area and found Rodriguez lying unresponsive on the ground with several gunshot wounds to the stomach area.
The coroner’s office said she was pronounced dead at 2:27 a.m.
An autopsy has been scheduled.
Police Seeking Information
As of Friday afternoon, investigators had not identified a suspect.
Neighbors described the area near Cameron Drive and Libby Drive as usually quiet.
Police reportedly went door-to-door asking residents for Ring camera footage and information about a man shown in a photograph connected to the investigation.
One nearby resident said law enforcement had also been active in the area during April.
