The National Transportation Safety Board released preliminary details about a deadly plane crash that happened in Union County in April.

Four Family Members Died in Crash

Officials said a Mooney M20J aircraft crashed near Union County Airport on April 17 around 6 p.m.

The pilot and three passengers, all relatives, were killed in the crash.

Plane Refueled Before Takeoff

According to investigators, the aircraft landed at Union County Airport during a cross-country flight and later refueled.

Surveillance video showed the passengers leaving the plane before boarding again about 30 minutes later.

The plane later departed from runway 23.

Aircraft Crashed Shortly After Takeoff

Investigators said video footage showed the aircraft climbing to about 200 feet above ground level before banking right, then sharply rolling left and descending behind trees.

A plume of smoke was later seen rising from the crash site.

Wreckage Found in Wooded Area

The crash site was located in wooded terrain about 1,270 feet from the runway.

Officials said most of the wreckage was destroyed by a post-impact fire.
