Authorities in Aiken County believe human remains discovered near Blackville may belong to missing mother Krystal Anderson, who disappeared in 2022.
Investigation Focuses on Boyfriend
Prosecutors say Anderson’s boyfriend, Tony Berry, is charged with kidnapping and murder in connection with her disappearance.
Investigators previously found Berry’s burned vehicle in Newberry County but were unable to locate Anderson’s body at the time.
Remains Found Near Highway 37
Deputies said the remains were discovered Wednesday buried off Highway 37 near Blackville.
While DNA testing is still pending, investigators and people close to Anderson believe the remains are hers.
A private investigator working with the family said belongings found with the remains appeared to match Anderson’s personal items.
Authorities Detail Evidence in Case
According to arrest warrants, witnesses allegedly saw Berry arguing with Anderson before he was seen placing her into the trunk of his car in August 2022.
Investigators also said cellphone data, internet searches, and purchases allegedly linked Berry to planning and concealing the crime.
Authorities claim Berry bought items including:
- A gas-powered auger
- Shovels
- Trash bags
- Plastic coveralls
- Gloves
- Plastic sheeting
Family Awaits Final Confirmation
Anderson’s family said the discovery brings both heartbreak and hope for closure nearly four years after she vanished.
Investigators are still awaiting official DNA confirmation of the remains.
