Two South Carolina women were arrested after police found several young children alone inside a North Charleston home described as unsafe, authorities said.
Children Found Alone Inside Home
North Charleston police responded to a home on English Street Tuesday morning after receiving reports of unattended children outside.
When officers arrived, they found three children near the front door and another child asleep inside the house.
Police said no adults were at the home at the time.
Unsafe Living Conditions Reported
Investigators said the house had multiple safety hazards, including dirty floors, a large hole in a bedroom floor, and a broken mirror within reach of the children.
Officers also reported there was very little food in the refrigerator, and the children told police they were hungry.
Two Women Arrested
Authorities identified the children’s mother as 32-year-old Anita Jacqueline Capers.
A second woman, 33-year-old Candace Warner, later told officers they had left the children alone while driving to another area so Capers could go to work.
Both women were charged with four counts of unlawful conduct toward a child.
Children Released to Relative
Police said the children were later placed with a relative after the arrests.
