The Aiken County Coroner’s Office is investigating a crash that claimed the life of a 77-year-old man from Wagener.
Crash Happened on Festival Trail Road
According to officials, the crash occurred around 9:25 a.m. Monday on Festival Trail Road near Airport Road in Aiken County.
Authorities said Ernest M. Gleaton, 77, was driving a 2007 Ford F-150 south on Festival Trail Road when the truck went off the right side of the roadway. The vehicle then struck a mailbox, a culvert, and eventually crashed into a chain-linked fence.
Driver Died After Being Hospitalized
Emergency crews with Aiken County EMS responded to the scene and transported Gleaton to Wellstar MCG for treatment. Officials confirmed that he died from his injuries on Tuesday at 10:23 a.m.
Investigation Ongoing
The Aiken County Coroner’s Office and the South Carolina Highway Patrol are continuing to investigate the crash. Officials said a toxicology analysis is still pending as part of the investigation.
