Three people have been charged in connection with a deadly drive-by shooting in Chester County that left a 16-year-old dead and another teenager injured, according to the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED).
Teen Killed in Drive-By Shooting
Investigators said the shooting happened around 8:18 p.m. on May 3 near Pinckney Street in Chester. Authorities say 16-year-old Avery West was killed during the shooting, while a 17-year-old victim suffered injuries and was taken to a hospital in York County by EMS. Officials have not released an update on the second victim’s condition.
Suspects Charged With Murder
SLED charged John-David Estes, 21, and Quentin Javor Craig Jr., 24, with murder and two counts of attempted murder. According to arrest warrants, the two men were inside a 2014 Ford Focus when shots were fired from the vehicle toward the victims.
Investigators determined the vehicle belonged to Estes, while Craig Jr. was allegedly armed with the firearm used in the shooting. Surveillance footage reportedly captured the suspects fleeing the scene shortly after the gunfire.
Third Person Charged
Authorities also charged Kenyetta Adrryll Sims, 53, with accessory after the fact to murder. Investigators say Sims helped Craig Jr. avoid arrest after the shooting by driving him to Pineville, North Carolina, between May 4 and May 6.
Court documents also state that Sims allegedly provided money for transportation “outside the southern United States” and gave detectives false information during interviews.
Investigation Continues
The Chester Police Department and Chester County Sheriff’s Office are assisting SLED with the investigation. All three suspects were booked into the Chester County Detention Center and denied bond.
SLED said the investigation remains active and ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact investigators.
