A man is in custody after pointing a rifle at an Aiken County policeman

A tense standoff in Aiken, South Carolina, ended peacefully Sunday evening with the arrest of a man who had pointed a rifle at a deputy before barricading himself inside a residence.

Disturbance Call Leads to Confrontation

The incident began around 7:50 PM when the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office received a call about a disturbance and domestic issue at a home on the 1000 block of Scarborough Pass in Trolley Run. Upon arrival, deputies encountered a man who emerged from the house with a rifle. The man pointed the weapon at one of the deputies before retreating back into the residence.

SWAT and Negotiators Respond to the Scene

After the suspect barricaded himself inside the home, the sheriff’s office called in the SWAT team and negotiators. Negotiators were able to establish communication with the man, and after several hours of talks, they successfully persuaded him to surrender peacefully.

No Injuries and No Hostage Situation

The standoff ended without any injuries, and authorities confirmed that no one else was inside the house with the man at the time. It was not a hostage situation. However, as a precaution, deputies evacuated several nearby homes.

Over a dozen law enforcement vehicles were on the scene, surrounding the house during the standoff. The incident took place on Market Station Boulevard, just off Scarborough Pass.

Charges Pending

The man was taken into custody, and authorities have not yet disclosed the charges he will face. The incident is under further investigation.
