A disturbing case from Pennsylvania has once again brought attention to child safety and responsibility. A woman with a past conviction related to her own child is now facing fresh charges after another young child was found wandering alone outside in dangerous conditions.
Babysitter Accused After Toddler Found Alone
Arissa Ward, a 32-year-old woman from Pennsylvania, has been arrested after a 2-year-old boy she was supposed to care for was found alone on a road.
The incident happened on April 21 in Windsor Borough, where police say the child was spotted walking by himself early in the morning.
Child Found in Unsafe Conditions
According to the Pennsylvania State Police, the toddler was discovered around 8 a.m. on W. Main Street by a passerby.
The situation was especially worrying because:
- The child had no shoes or socks
- The temperature was around 37°F (very cold)
- He was described as “cold to the touch”
The child was quickly taken into safe custody after being found.
What Police Found During Investigation
After reaching the home where the child was being babysat, officers spoke to Ward. She reportedly confirmed that the child had been dropped off with her earlier that morning.
Investigators later found that:
- Ward had fallen asleep while the child was in her care
- The child managed to leave the house on his own
- She appeared unaware that the toddler had even been dropped off
Police say she only realised something was wrong later and started messaging the child’s mother.
Mother’s Statement Raises Concerns
According to reports, the child’s mother had dropped him off around 6:30 a.m. She said:
- Ward was asleep when she arrived
- She had to wake Ward multiple times
- The child was taken upstairs to Ward’s room
- The door was left open when she left
Later, when Ward started messaging her asking about the child’s location, the situation became even more confusing and alarming.
Previous Conviction in 2016 Case
This is not the first serious case involving Ward. In 2016, she was charged after accidentally causing the death of her 2-month-old son.
Reports stated that:
- She fell asleep on a couch while under the influence of alcohol and marijuana
- She accidentally suffocated the baby
In 2018, she was sentenced to:
- Two days in prison
- Three months of house arrest
- 40 hours of community service
- Five years of probation
Current Charges Filed
Following this latest incident, Ward now faces:
- A felony charge of child endangerment
- A misdemeanor charge of recklessly endangering another person
Authorities are continuing to investigate the case.
Importance of Child Safety and Supervision
This case highlights how important it is to ensure proper care and supervision of children. Young kids are especially vulnerable and depend completely on adults for safety.
Basic precautions include:
- Staying alert when responsible for children
- Ensuring doors and gates are secure
- Avoiding situations where supervision may be compromised
