An Illinois man has been arrested and charged after federal authorities say he sent multiple messages threatening to assassinate the president and carry out other violent attacks.
Alleged Threats Sent to Government Agencies
According to the U.S. Department of Justice, Michael Kovco, 29, of Chicago, allegedly sent messages to official government websites, including the CIA and the White House.
In those communications, authorities say he outlined plans to carry out an ambush-style attack targeting Donald Trump, as well as members of the United States Secret Service and the president’s son, Barron Trump.
Details of Alleged Plot
Federal investigators say Kovco described using a high-powered, long-range rifle and referenced potential explosive devices in his messages.
Authorities also allege he made threats against law enforcement personnel, including statements about targeting agents who attempted to contact him.
The messages were sent over several months, with some occurring shortly after federal agents visited his residence to follow up on earlier threats.
Arrest and Charges
Officials said Kovco included personal contact information in the messages, allowing investigators to identify and locate him.
He was arrested on April 3 and charged with transmitting threats in interstate commerce, a federal offense that carries a potential penalty of up to five years in prison if convicted.
Investigation Ongoing
The case remains under investigation as authorities review the full scope of the alleged threats.
The U.S. Department of Justice has not released additional details about any further charges or court proceedings.
