A 32-year-old woman was fatally shot while working a drive-thru shift at a fast food restaurant in Missouri, in what authorities describe as a senseless act of violence following a confrontation.
Shooting at Drive-Thru Window
According to the St. Louis County Police Department, the incident occurred around 11:35 p.m. on April 8 at a Steak ‘n Shake location on Bellefontaine Road.
Police said Chauncia La’Shell Meekins and a male coworker were working at the drive-thru window when a confrontation took place with someone in a vehicle. During the incident, the suspect fired a weapon through the window, striking both employees.
Victim Pronounced Dead at Scene
Meekins was pronounced dead at the scene. Her coworker sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
Authorities said Meekins had only been working at the restaurant for about three months.
Family Grieves Sudden Loss
Meekins’ mother, Tamela Washington, said she had spoken with her daughter just hours before the shooting.
The two had been discussing Meekins’ upcoming birthday on April 23. Instead of celebrating, her family is now preparing for her funeral.
Describing her daughter, Washington said she was “bright,” “friendly,” and hardworking, adding that the loss has left the family devastated.
Investigation Ongoing, Suspect at Large
The shooter remains unidentified, and no arrests have been made. The St. Louis County Police Department said the case is still under active investigation.
